Read your script while streaming with OBS Studio

Transparent overlay that sits on top of OBS — your viewers never see it

Between cueing alerts, watching chat, flipping scenes, and actually being entertaining, a live OBS stream already has plenty competing for your attention. A physical script taped to the monitor makes it worse. A transparent script — sitting right over the OBS preview, scrolling at your pace — is one fewer thing to manage. And because OBS captures scene sources rather than your whole desktop, viewers never see it.

How to set it up

1

Open OBS Studio

Launch OBS and set up your scene with your camera source, overlays, and any other elements you need.

2

Launch Transparent Teleprompter

Open the app, paste or write your script, and customize font size, color, and scrolling speed.

3

Position over OBS preview

Drag the teleprompter window over the OBS preview area. Adjust transparency so you can see both your script and the OBS interface beneath it.

4

Start scrolling and record

Hit play on the teleprompter, then start your stream or recording in OBS. Read naturally as the text scrolls.

Tips for best results

Use Studio Mode

OBS Studio Mode lets you preview scene changes before they go live. Position the teleprompter over the Preview panel so you can read while preparing transitions.

Set transparency to 40-60%

This sweet spot lets you see your script clearly while still monitoring OBS alerts, chat, and scene status underneath.

Use a larger font for distance

If your camera is further away, bump the font size to 32-40px so you can read without squinting or leaning forward.

Popular use cases

Reading sponsor segments during live streams
Following a show outline for structured content
Delivering news-style commentary on gameplay
Reading viewer questions and prepared answers
Following a tutorial script while screen sharing

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the overlay appear in my stream, even though it's sitting on top of OBS?

OBS captures specific sources, not your whole screen. Camera, Window Capture, Game Capture, and Browser sources only pull from the feed they're configured for — the teleprompter sits outside all of them. The single exception is Display Capture: if that source is active, everything on that monitor gets captured, overlay included. Either move the overlay to a different monitor or use Window Capture instead of Display Capture.

Does it work with OBS on multiple monitors?

Yes. You can position the teleprompter on any monitor. Many users keep OBS on one screen and the teleprompter on a second monitor near their camera.

Can I control scrolling with hotkeys?

You can use the floating control bar to play/pause and adjust speed. Position it in a corner of your screen where it won't interfere with OBS controls.
